TAKATA RECALL THE FRONT AXLE BREAKS WHEN DRIVING ON A CITY STREET (NOT TURNING BUT THE STEERING WHEEL IS SLIGHTLY RIGHT) WITH A SPEED OF ABOUT 25-30 MPH AND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WENT OFF THE VEHICLE WITH BOTH RIGHT FRONT AND RIGHT REAR TIRES BURST. NOT SURE IF THE CAR HITS THE CURB FIRST OR THE AXLE OR FLAT TIRE HAPPENED FIRST.

My son was driving down Interstate 71 at approx 65 mph in our 2018 Toyota Camry when it lost power. He was able to pull off to the side of the road and turned the car off. Once the car was restarted, he was able to drive it (at a maximum speed of 35 mph) to the closest exit where he pulled into a gas station. While trying to back it into a parking spot, the car would not go in…

I bought a 2018 Toyota Camry XLE in May 2020. One week after purchase, the vehicle stalled minutes after putting gas. The Check Malfunction Indicator Lamp came on, and the vehicle shut off. The vehicle turned on again after approximately 30 minutes. Eight months later I received a recall notice regarding a fuel pump malfunction. Toyota replaced the low-pressure fuel pump in Ma…

Questions

FAQ

Is the 2018 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners have filed 745 safety complaints with NHTSA for the 2018 Toyota Camry, most often about power train. Compare the complaint counts across model years above — a year with far more complaints than the model's average is the strongest 'avoid' signal in public data.
Which Toyota Camry years should I avoid?
The rule of thumb used by analysts: a model year whose complaint count is well above the model's own average (we flag 2× or more) usually had a real manufacturing or design problem — not just noisy reporting. Use the year-by-year strip on this page.
Where do these complaints come from?
Directly from NHTSA, the US government road-safety agency. Any owner can file a Vehicle Owner Questionnaire; NHTSA publishes them as public domain data. We cache each lookup for up to 7 days.
Do complaints mean a recall is coming?
Sometimes. NHTSA opens defect investigations when complaint patterns emerge, and investigations can end in recalls. Check the recalls page for this vehicle to see what has already been recalled.
