Recall Checker — FAQ

How do I check if my car has a recall?
Select your car's year, make and model above — results come directly from NHTSA, the US government's vehicle safety agency, and are updated daily. For an exact match to your specific vehicle, you can also check by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Are recall repairs really free?
Yes. In the US, safety recall repairs are free by law at any authorized dealer of your car's brand, regardless of the vehicle's age or whether you are the original owner. The manufacturer pays.
Does this work for cars outside the US?
This tool searches US-market recalls (NHTSA). Many recalls are global, so it is still a strong signal for the same model sold elsewhere — but also check your national vehicle safety authority.
How often is recall data updated?
NHTSA publishes new recall campaigns continuously; our lookups fetch live data and cache each search for up to 7 days.
