Questions

UK Data — FAQ

Where does this UK accident data come from?
From STATS19 — the official police-reported collision dataset published by the UK Department for Transport under the Open Government Licence. It covers every police-recorded injury collision in Great Britain, including provisional current-year records.
Which UK area has the most road accidents?
Birmingham records the most police-reported collisions of any single local authority (11,322 over the five-year window), followed by the largest urban areas — raw counts track population and traffic volume, so also compare severity shares.
What counts as a "serious" collision?
STATS19 severity has three levels: fatal (someone died within 30 days), serious (hospital admission, fractures, etc.) and slight. These pages show fatal and serious counts separately from total collisions.
