Live map and feeds
Markers and headlines represent news media coverage of accidents, aggregated via the GDELT Project's global monitoring — not direct feeds from police, hospitals or emergency services. Coverage skews toward severe incidents and widely-reported events; a single accident may generate multiple reports, and some accidents receive no media coverage at all.
Estimated counters
All counters labelled "estimated" are statistical projections, calculated by advancing WHO-published per-country death rates through the current year in real time. They are not counts of confirmed individual deaths. No live global casualty feed exists; any site presenting one is estimating, whether it says so or not. We say so.
Historical archive
Death tolls for historical disasters vary between sources; where estimates differ significantly, we show ranges. Figures follow the most widely accepted historical records.
