VEHICLE IS 2 YEARS OLD AND WE ARE DEALING WITH A PERSISTENT, NON-FUNCTIONING AC SYSTEM THAT SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THESE HONDA CIVICS. HONDA CORPORATE REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM, LEAVING THE CONSUMER WITH A $2500 REPAIR BILL, THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE A LONG TERM FIX, ON A NEW CAR. WE LIVE IN FL AND NOT HAVING TEMPERATURE CONTROL IS DANGEROUS.

Electrical System ODI 11499266 12/28/2022

Wiring harness was "damaged by rodents" twice due to the swap to soy-based, edible wiring. No other vehicles have this issue in my area and I have lived here 5 years. This damage causes all electrical systems to fail, including power steering, and will eventually result in a fatality - if it has not already. Honda will not cover this under warranty and has done nothing to reso…

Questions

FAQ

Is the 2017 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners have filed 599 safety complaints with NHTSA for the 2017 Honda Civic, most often about steering. Compare the complaint counts across model years above — a year with far more complaints than the model's average is the strongest 'avoid' signal in public data.
Which Honda Civic years should I avoid?
The rule of thumb used by analysts: a model year whose complaint count is well above the model's own average (we flag 2× or more) usually had a real manufacturing or design problem — not just noisy reporting. Use the year-by-year strip on this page.
Where do these complaints come from?
Directly from NHTSA, the US government road-safety agency. Any owner can file a Vehicle Owner Questionnaire; NHTSA publishes them as public domain data. We cache each lookup for up to 7 days.
Do complaints mean a recall is coming?
Sometimes. NHTSA opens defect investigations when complaint patterns emerge, and investigations can end in recalls. Check the recalls page for this vehicle to see what has already been recalled.
