Historical Accident Hotspots
Quick answer: police in Great Britain recorded 513,801 injury collisions from 2021 to 2025 — 7,553 fatal and 116,813 serious — injuring 652,821 people and killing 8,033. Choose an area, year, severity and road user below to see where they were recorded.
Recorded collisions on the map
Hexagons are coloured by recorded collisions or casualties for your filters. Hexagons are Uber H3 cells; a busy cell is not a measure of risk because traffic volumes are not included.
The map loads when you reach it. The tables below work without it.

Methodology and limitations
- Source: Department for Transport, Road Safety Data (STATS19), police-reported personal injury collisions in Great Britain, Open Government Licence v3.0. Files: dft-road-casualty-statistics-collision-last-5-years.csv, dft-road-casualty-statistics-casualty-last-5-years.csv. Prepared 2026-09-13.
- 513,801 collisions read; 0 duplicate collision ids dropped; 53 without coordinates are counted in totals but not placed on the map.
- Counts are police-reported collisions with at least one injured casualty; damage-only crashes are not in STATS19.
- A collision is counted once; casualties are counted from the casualty table.
- Changes between years can reflect reporting changes (for example police forces moving to the CRASH reporting system) as well as real change.
- Hexagons are Uber H3 cells; a busy cell is not a measure of risk because traffic volumes are not included.
- Local authorities follow the current council map: collisions recorded under former district codes (North Yorkshire, Somerset and Cumbria districts merged in 2023; Sheffield and Barnsley recoded) are counted in today's council.
- Road users: pedestrian, cyclist, motorcyclist (all engine sizes), car occupant (including taxis), other (bus, van, goods vehicle, horse rider, mobility scooter and unknown).
